Ms. Audrey Azoulay, who is the main director of the organization, and conference participants arrived in Samarkand this morning on the first “Paris - Samarkand” charter flight so as to participate in the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference.
The high-ranking guest was welcomed by officials of the government of Uzbekistan and regional government. For Audrey Azoulay, who has headed the organization since 2017, this session will be her last as UNESCO Director-General. The new UNESCO Director-General will officially take office in Samarkand. The 54-year-old Egyptian Khalid Al-Anani, who recently won the election at the 222nd session of the organization's Executive Committee, will be confirmed for this position. “At a time when divisions can overshadow dialogue, this conference should serve as a reminder that our future is interconnected,” Audrey Azoulay said in an interview with Dunyo news agency on the eve of the organization's Samarkand forum. It should be noted that the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference will be held in Samarkand from October 30 to November 13, for the first time in forty years in a city other than Paris.
