 Akdarya is the name of the village and district in Samarkand province. According to the observation of academic V.V.Bartold , It is colled the flowing water Aksuv  or Akdarya river flows through Karasuv or Karadarya. According to Vyatkin, mountain rivers are Aksuv or Akdarya.

Akdarya is a river which One of the two major part of  Zarafshan is 131 km long. The name of the river was the basis in the district.
