


Adiz Boboev, who is an acting governor of Samarkand region, held a meeting with the executive chairman of the Malaysian companies “Capital A Berhad” and “AirAsia Berhad”, General Director of the “AirAsia X” project Kamarudin bin Meranun.
They exchanged views on issues of bilateral cooperation, in particular, the development of the tourism sector and the establishment of air services. The head of the region Adiz Boboev noted that great attention is paid to pilgrimage tourism in Samarkand, and noted that the Imam Bukhari complex, which will be put into operation in the near future, will further expand opportunities in this area. He also said that he is ready to work with Malaysian partners to establish modern hotels around the complex and improve the service system. In turn, Kamarudin bin Meranun expressed his satisfaction with his second visit to Samarkand, noting that this ancient city and its holy shrines are of great importance for tourists from Malaysia, Indonesia and other Muslim countries. He also announced that flights had recently been launched on the Tashkent-Kuala Lumpur route three days a week, and that he intends to launch direct flights to Samarkand in the future. For information, Kamarudin bin Meranun bought a small airline that was in bankruptcy in 2001 and quickly turned it into the first low-cost airline in Asia. Today, as the executive chairman of Capital A Berhad and AirAsia Berhad, he is working on launching flights to many countries. At the end of the meeting, relevant tasks were set to launch flights on the Samarkand-Kuala Lumpur route, as well as expand cooperation in the development of the tourism sector.
