


Within the framework of the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, an international conference on “Samarkand: 3000 years of heritage” was held in order to scientifically assess the three thousand-year history of the city of Samarkand and widely highlight its place in human civilization.
At the opening of this international conference, which was attended by representatives of Uzbek and foreign scientific institutions,Adiz Boboev, who is the acting governor of Samarkand region , Elmurod Najimov, deputy director of the department for creative economy and tourism of the administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Lazare Eloundou Assomo, director of the UNESCO World Heritage Center spoke and wished success to the work of the conference.The conference comprehensively analyzed the rich historical, spiritual and cultural heritage of Samarkand, and presented the results of archaeological and historical research.The conference emphasized that Samarkand is a crossroads of Eastern and Western civilizations, where science, crafts, trade and architecture have developed, and has been a center of spirituality and culture. Experts noted that research conducted here shows that the first settlements in the city date back to the 2nd millennium BC. Reports were made on the discovery of various architectural structures, economic and religious buildings, and samples of material culture related to ancient urban culture in Kuktepa, Afrosiyob and other monuments in Samarkand during archaeological excavations. These findings indicate the continuous development of urban civilization in Samarkand and its oasis, scientists said. During the discussions, the results of research conducted within the framework of international cooperation in archaeological monuments such as Afrosiyob and Kuktepa were considered, and it was concluded that Samarkand is no less than three thousand years old.
