INFORMATION ON CURRENT AND PLANNED TOURISM WORK IN SAMARKAND REGION
Work carried out and results achieved in 2017-2021.
In 2016, 178,000 foreign tourists visited the country, and in 2019, this figure was more than 3 times higher, i.e. 560,000.
These indicators were repeated in the visit of local tourists, and their visit in 2019 was 3 million. formed a person. During the 8 months of 2021, 1.5 million local and foreign tourists visited.
The visit of tourists has changed not only in terms of quantity, but also in terms of quality, and the number of days they stayed in the territory was 2.6 days in 2019 instead of 1.5 days in 2016. Daily spending by tourists increased from 70.0 USD to 150 USD.
The number of accommodation facilities in the industry increased by 3 times, tourist enterprises by 2 times, family guest houses were established in 222 households, and permanent employment of these households was ensured.
In order to train highly qualified personnel for the tourism industry, the International University of Tourism "Silk Road" was established in Samarkand. Today, the university has launched a "smart campus" based on innovative approaches, an exam proctoring system using artificial intelligence has been launched, and professors who have worked at leading universities in foreign countries have been appointed as its professors. -teachers were attracted, more than 15 thousand unique library funds were created, and the directions of "Travel Journalism", "Creative Industry", "Smart Tourism", "Cultural Heritage Management", "Museum Work" were organized. Also, to deeply study our history and cultural heritage The "Silk Road Civilization" research institute is being established at the university.
Proposals for the development of the tourism sector in 2022-2026.
Work to be carried out by the end of 2021:
A system of allocating more than 100 billion soums to improve the infrastructure of tourism and cultural heritage sites has been introduced, and in 2021 in the Samarkand region:
Restoration and conservation work on 17 cultural heritage sites;
Measures to improve the condition of 7 tourist sites, establish information centers, and organize adjacent infrastructure;
Asphalt laying and repair work on 42 km of roads leading to tourist sites;
Engineering infrastructure will be developed at 11 tourist sites, drinking and wastewater, and electricity supplies will be improved, and work to digitize the entry-exit system has begun.
Work to be carried out in 2022:
In order to effectively use the untapped potential of the region and improve the lives of the population, the regional tourism and sports sector will be developed in 2022-2026 based on the following "growth points":In 2021-2022, 210 investment projects worth 7.18 trillion soums will be implemented, creating 10 thousand new jobs for the local population.
As part of the development of tourism infrastructure, the Samarkand tourism center with all the requirements is being built.
A high-quality logistics and transport service is organized for local and foreign tourists at an affordable price. In this case, foreign air carriers are allowed to freely use the services of the country's airports, and they are involved in transportation services. This provides a wide range of facilities for migrant workers and tourists.
Samarkand International Airport will be transferred to a private operator for the first time, and with the commissioning of the new terminal of Samarkand Airport, this airport will be connected by rail and bus services, turning it into a major transport hub and becoming the main tourism gateway of Uzbekistan. As a result, the new international airport being built in Samarkand will increase the number of flights by 7-10 times, creating an opportunity to significantly increase the flow of tourists from abroad.
It is also worth noting that the "Samarkand Tourism Center" is being created, which will include 8 4-5 star hotels with 1,300 rooms, an international congress center and exhibition complexes, thematic alleys, and the historical complex "Eternal City" on an area of 18 thousand sq.m. This center will serve as one of the largest conference centers in Central Asia. In the future, cooperation with international organizations in the field of tourism will be further strengthened.
Reconstruction works are being carried out in the "Imam Al Bukhari" complex in Payariq district. There is a 10,000-seat mosque, a themed avenue displaying the religious heritage and material cultural heritage of our great ancestors on an area of 21 hectares, 3 hotels and 24 family guest houses, as well as "halal" catering establishments serving 3,000 pilgrims. a pilgrimage tourism complex will be built.
Work to be carried out in 2023-2026:
Districts will be specialized based on their tourism potential (Samarkand city - cultural, pilgrimage, MICE tourism, Urgut district - extreme, ecological, rural tourism, Payariq district - pilgrimage and rural tourism, Nurabad district - medical, extreme tourism, Tailak district - wine tourism, Samarkand district - rural, medical, MICE tourism).
For pilgrimage tourism: from countries such as Indonesia, Turkey, Pakistan, Malaysia, Russia, India, Bangladesh, Tatarstan and Chechnya, Israel, USA and France;
For classic tourism: from Europe, CIS countries;
For medical tourism: from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan.
The tourist mahallas in the territories of the “Boghibaland” and “Sharq” municipal self-government units of the Samarkand city of Samarkand region, the villages of “Tersak” in the Urgut district and “Choshtepa” in the Payarik district will be transformed into “Tourism Villages” and more than 1,000 new jobs will be created for the residents of the mahalla.
In 2023-2026, the number of foreign tourists visiting Samarkand will reach 4 million by 2026, thanks to the diversification of tourist products and the annual improvement of the tourism industry.
Within the framework of the "Travel around Uzbekistan" program, the number of domestic tourists will be increased to 5 million by 2026 and employment in the tourism industry will be ensured during off-season periods.
By 2026, the number of hotels will reach 400 and the number of beds in them will reach 22,000. 300 new family guest houses will be created.
As a result, by 2026, the number of permanent employees in tourist entities will increase to 40,000, and the number of seasonal employees will increase to 70,000. Delivered in 3.0 days.
