


Adiz Boboev, the acting governor of Samarkand region, together with Khalid Ahmad al-Anani the recently elected director-general of UNESCO, visited a number of cultural heritage sites in Samarkand.
In particular, during a tour of the Registan complex, the Shahi Zinda monument, the Amir Temur mausoleum and mosque, information was provided on the work being carried out to preserve cultural heritage sites. Khalid Ahmad al-Anani, the former Minister of Culture of the Arab Republic of Egypt, was elected director-general of the organization at the session of the UNESCO Executive Committee held on October 6, 2025. Representatives of UNESCO member states also approved his candidacy at the 43rd session in Samarkand on November 6. During the tour of cultural monuments, views were exchanged on the issues of preserving the rich heritage of Samarkand, restoring historical monuments and passing them on to future generations. Ahmad al-Anani also visited the Imam Bukhari complex. The Qur'an was recited here and the creative work was familiarized with. It was recognized that the complex is being rebuilt in a modern architectural style, worthy of the status of the great scholar of hadith. The guests also visited the innovative museum established in the complex. The museum contains information about the history of 25 prophets whose names are mentioned in the Holy Qur'an, the genealogy of Muhammad, their lives, and the stages of development of the science of hadith. During the tour of the monuments of Samarkand, the head of the region, Adiz Boboev, noted that cooperation with UNESCO will further enhance the prestige of Samarkand in the world cultural arena. During the tour of cultural heritage sites, the parties agreed on joint projects and initiatives planned for the future.
