The President Shavkat Mirziyoev got acquainted with the activities of the Institute of Biochemistry of Samarkand State University.

More than 25,000 students are studying at the university these days. Four institutes - Institute of Agrobiotechnologies and Food Safety, Institute of Engineering Physics, Research Institute of Turkology and Institute of Biochemistry were established here.

The Institute of Biochemistry was opened on the basis of the faculties of biology and chemistry of the university this year. For this, a large-scale construction was carried out and seven new buildings were built. In particular, 2 educational buildings with a total of more than a thousand seats, a meeting hall, an orangery-greenhouse, a biological research laboratory - vivarium, a botanical research laboratory - herbarium and a student kitchen were built.

Importantly, in this way, it was possible for specialists of two areas to conduct scientific research in the same field. This brings the integration of innovations in biology and chemistry to a new level. The head of our state got acquainted with the conditions in the institute's classrooms, orangery, and scientific laboratories and talked to professors and teachers. In the future, they spoke about the plan to create new drugs that selectively act against malignant tumors based on the chemical transformation of oncological drugs.

The president gave instructions on sending the institute's scientists for training abroad, developing pharmaceutical and chemical products, and creating new varieties of cotton, grapes, and grain.

Today, 2,800 students are studying at the Institute of Biochemistry in 8 fields of study. In general, the university has 12 scientific and 67 educational laboratories.
