Preserving the past, building the future

An international seminar on the topic “Preserving the past, building the future” was held at the Samarkand State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering named after Mirzo Ulugbek as part of the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference.

The speakers spoke about the preservation of historical monuments and cultural heritage sites, their transfer to future generations, restoration practices and international cooperation projects. This seminar, organized in cooperation with UNESCO, discussed modern directions for the sustainable preservation and development of cultural heritage with the participation of renowned scientists, researchers, practitioners and students from around the world. The participants of the event exchanged experiences on issues of sustainable heritage preservation, the impact of climate change, digital technologies, public participation and the development of urban heritage. It is no coincidence that this prestigious event was held in Samarkand. Because Samarkand has long been located at the crossroads of the Great Silk Road, it is considered a place where history and modern development are combined. The seminar included lectures on sustainable resources and traditional methods, cultural heritage and climate change, digital technologies in heritage preservation, urban cultural heritage and sustainable development factors. In addition, practical master classes were organized for participants. Practical training was held on the study of traditional restoration methods in construction and innovations in sustainable architecture. During the seminar, experts, scientists and practitioners from Uzbekistan, Europe, Asia and other regions had the opportunity to exchange views and establish close dialogue on ensuring the harmony of historical heritage and modern development.
