Samarkand city will host the 59th annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on May 3-6, in 2026.

It is expected to bring together heads of banking and financial institutions from the bank's 69 member countries, representatives of international organizations, NGOs and the media, and consider development challenges facing countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Issues related to this meeting were discussed at a meeting held with the participation of Adiz Boboev, who is an acting governor of Samarkand region, David Garrigos-Soliva, an advisor to the secretary of the Asian Development Bank, and Botir Mirbabaev, a chief specialist of the Strategic and Political Department of the bank. According to David Garrigos-Soliva, the 2026 Annual Meeting will serve as an important platform for strengthening unique dialogue and cooperation in many areas of the region. Working with its members and partners to jointly solve complex problems, ADB widely uses innovative financial instruments and strategic partnerships to change people's lives and build quality infrastructure, - the bank's representatives said. Adiz Boboev expressed his satisfaction with the fact that the ADB's annual meeting is being held in Samarkand, noting that all necessary measures will be taken to hold this prestigious event at a high level. It was also agreed during the dialogue to hold a business forum and meetings between Samarkand entrepreneurs and manufacturers with the participation of bank finance, foreign investors. The bank's representatives acknowledged that they will contribute to the transition to a green economy, strengthening the private sector and investing in human capital in Samarkand, and that environmentally friendly electric buses and trams have been launched in Samarkand as part of the “green city” project, and expressed their readiness to jointly implement new projects within the framework of the meeting.
