The construction of an electricity generation plant by incinerating solid household waste has begun in Samarkand.
The Chinese company “Shanghai SUS Environment” invested in this project. The work carried out within the framework of the project was discussed at a meeting of the acting governor of the region, Adiz Boboev, with representatives of the delegation led by Zhu Xiaoping, director of the Shanghai SUS Environment company. Initially, Zhu Xiaoping said that so far the company has invested in 84 waste-to-energy projects around the world, where 10 million tons of household waste are processed annually. As part of the project being implemented in Samarkand, a plant with a thermal processing capacity of 1,500 tons of waste per day and a capacity to generate 240 million kWh of electricity per year is being built on an area of 15 hectares. At the meeting, Chinese investors asked for practical assistance in laying electricity and drinking water networks for this plant. After that, the head of the region, Adiz Boboev, together with relevant officials, went to the construction site of the waste-to-energy plant in the neighbourhood Navruz of Samarkand. The issue of connecting electricity and drinking water networks to this plant was promptly resolved on the spot. The head of the region emphasized the need to accelerate the pace of its implementation, given the importance of the project for the region.
