Nara and Samarkand Friendship Festival, titled “Reunion of the Great Silk Road”, has been held

Adiz Boboev, who is an acting governor of Samarkand region, spoke at the opening of the festival touched upon the work being carried out to further strengthen trade, economic, and cultural ties between Samarkand and Nara.

As part of the festival, information was provided about the history, present, modern development, culture, and tourism opportunities of Samarkand. After that, artists from the regional branch of the Uzbek national Maqom art center and the regional branch of the State Philharmonic Society of Uzbekistan gave performances. A significant aspect of the event was that representatives of Japanese art and culture also performed Uzbek national melodies. JICA volunteer, Mashu Komazaki who is cultural ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan  entertained the audience with the magical melodies of the instrument called Dutar. Members of the “Japanese Pearl” group performed Uzbek national dances, emphasizing the harmony and commonality of national cultures along the Great Silk Road. The “De-Ossi” group performed musical performances using Japanese and Western instruments, expressing ancient Nara melodies. This two-day festival is important in familiarizing Japanese people with Uzbek national traditions and culture.
